- Kärnfull Next has officially submitted an application to the Swedish government to construct four to six small modular nuclear reactors. This proposed site is located approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Valdemarsvik, marking a significant milestone in Sweden’s nuclear energy landscape. Johan Britz, the acting Minister for Climate and Environment, described the application as a historic moment for the country.
- The initiative comes as part of a larger trend toward revitalizing nuclear power in Sweden, where no new nuclear projects have been proposed in the last 50 years. The company, which is on the verge of being acquired by the publicly listed nuclear technology firm Studsvik, aims to contribute to the country’s energy needs while addressing climate concerns.
- Britz emphasized the importance of this development, highlighting its potential to bolster Sweden’s energy independence and sustainability goals. The proposal will now undergo a thorough review process by government authorities, which will assess its feasibility and compliance with safety standards.
