- Researchers at Luleå University of Technology are developing innovative methods to protect Sweden’s vital bridge infrastructure from the increasing threats posed by climate change. With over 30,000 bridges across the country, these structures play a crucial role in transportation, trade, and public services. Many of these bridges were constructed decades ago and are not equipped to handle today’s extreme weather conditions.
- The project focuses on utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to assess the structural integrity of bridges and predict potential vulnerabilities due to changing weather patterns. By integrating advanced analytical methods, the research aims to enhance the longevity and safety of these essential infrastructures, which are increasingly at risk from flooding, heavy snowfall, and other climate-related impacts.
